MAN UTD 2-1 LIVERPOOL MATCH REPORT

                                            MATCH REPORT

now this is a match report with a difference, its just my take on the game. i didn't see the game only the first half hour of the game and then some of the game on the radio in the car.
i saw all the goals but i couldn't bring myself to watch the game last night or even the highlights as i find it hard to take losing to MAN UTD.
so i hope you don't mind my report to much, its just my take on what i saw and heard yesterday.
TORRES and GERRARD celebrate after taking the early lead

                                         THE TEAM

just what i expected the line-up to be RAFA has been using this team selection recently for all the big games, a bit too defensive minded for my liking but he's tried and trusted it.
BABEL unlucky to be dropped but then again RAFA seems to like MAXI.

                                      ROONEY takes the penalty

                                            THE GAME

like i say i only saw about the first half hour in which i thought LIVERPOOL started brightly and scored a great early goal from TORRES from a good LIVERPOOL move involving GERRARD and a good cross from KUYT which TORRES buried into the MAN UTD net.
but i felt we conceded too soon after taking the lead, it came from a poor header from INSUA who headered the ball infield straight to VALENCIA who caught MASCHERANO wrong side of him and he took advantage by bursting straight towards the LIVERPOOL box, MASCHERANO tried to get back but could only get to VALENCIA by pulling him back initially from outside the box, but continued inside the box where VALENCIA fell. referee WEBB pointed to the spot and booked MASCHERANO. i thought it should have been a free-kick outside the box but i also think MASCHERANO was lucky to stay on the park as i think VALENCIA was through on goal.
                                          RAFA and FERGIE clash again

i felt the rest of what i saw was mostly MAN UTD in control. when i heard some of the second half it sounded like MAN UTD were comfortable and LIVERPOOL were not threatening much.
once again i don't think referee WEBB was giving LIVERPOOL much but still i don't think LIVERPOOL did enough PARK scored the winner with a brave header from a good cross from FLETCHER. GERRARD was once again quiet and TORRES just didn't get any service and was getting frustrated picking up a booking in the first half and becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of service.
TORRES had a great chance in the last minute which he scuffed into the air and BENAYOUN could only attempt a weak header towards goal.
                                           PARK scores the winner

                                           VERDICT
very disappointing day, i felt if we held ont the lead a bit longer it could have been difficult for MAN UTD and then when we went behind the team wasn't set up for chasing the game hence the late substitutions.
GERRARD very quiet once again, TORRES must be getting really fed up in these away games with the lack of support. INSUA struggled against the pace of VALENCIA.
a tight game once again but one i think MAN UTD shaded in all fairness.
not much margin for error now in the race for fourth place.

  1. Yup think you summed it up perfectly. On the other hand I am trying to be positive we've scored 8 goals in 3 games, Torres has scored 5 I don't think we would've been in the position we are in if we'd have had him fit all season, but thats all ifs and buts!

Not making excuses but I don't think 3 games in 6 days helped either but i guess thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

I just think now is the time to get behind our team and for the team to dig deep, we have virtually a fit squad now and who knows how many more twists and turns there are left.

  2. I think we've had too many games too close, I was worried when the fixtures schedule came out.

We have not much time to make great leaps, we can only hope the competition helps us out. Great post, btw!
